The highlight of this trip involved a little boy at play. As we drove along in our little car, he interrupted his play with a friend and yelled, "I like you's car!" This was our first road trip in our little car: Eastport, Maine. The location was chosen so we could partake of the festivities that come with visiting Raye's Mustard on National Mustard Day. My palate was loaded with sensations, while Jerry simply browsed the shop. His dislike of vinegar has limited his experiences!

This sweet petite kitty is fondly referred to as Mumma Kitty....she was abandoned in the gravel pit and was pregnant when we brought her home. It is faith that guides us through crisis, the hope for better times and a strong love that binds us in unity. I can do my part in my little world. Sure, I'll take it as a symbol. And....a reminder.

It all seemed to begin in early December when one of our first storms left this. A fog is rising from this lake just before a rain that washed away all the snow. But the snow season of 2010 and 2011 persists to this day. Whether it is my resistance to change or what, I truly become sad to see the snow melt. I love the white sparkle. It takes me a bit to settle into a new season.

Place is an important element in my life-it always has been. The careful placement of my feet as I walk the salty riverlets that run over the sandbar at Camp Ellis to my hand grasping the rough granite as I carry my body to the summit of Sargent, Schooner Head or Beech Cliff. The solid quiet of frozen Eagle lake. The calm is absorbed. Place reminds that the universe has provided me with all that is necessary. I must recognize and receive all that is good.

Kudos to the road crew. Hour after hour, they are devoted to clearing the way for those that must be on the road. The conditions out there are brutal. I had a big idea that I would venture down to the cove, but the wind was biting, blowing into my face making the shoot impossible. Instead, on the way home...I met the plow.

Routine helps a girl unwind at night. Recently, I was introduced to a great board/card game called Sequence. Turns out my youngest loves it and is quite strategic and it is finally a game that I can beat my husband at now and again. Despite the high stakes (of whether I win or not)...I am able to unwind. Judging from this image, it helps someone else in the family unwind too.

Despite the fact that I was racing from responsibility to responsibility...and of course running late, I JUST had to pull off into the Trenton Market Place parking lot to take this startling photo. Whether I see a red sky at night or in the morning, I have to go through the whole recitation of "RED sky in morning, sailors take warning. RED sky at NIGHT, sailors DELIGHT." After decades...why can't I sort this out in my head and be just a tad more automatic predicting the weather?!

Will tomorrow bring a beautiful day followed by another wicked snow storm? Time will tell. Sometimes it is best not knowing what will come, but just accept the weather minute by minute. Stand by we live in Maine. It will change.

I live on an island generous with mountains, lakes and tourists. Nearly every direction you head, you can see the ocean and lots and lots of smaller islands. Rounded and emerging.

What a treat it was recently to go home and visit my family. It left me sentimentally grateful for growing up where I did...a city that holds four generations of my history. After eating at our favorite Indian Restaurant we took a leisurely drive (yes....I KNOW the price of GAS) allowing my brother to relay story after story passing this landmark and that, filling my mind with sweet reminiscence of an earlier time.

When dealing with nature and time sensative circumstances, the photographer has little chance to dabble in the possiilities. Each morning Maxie, the cat steps on me-sometimes on my face to reach the loving embace of my husband. This is a daily exercise in fortitude (for me)...an exercise in mouthing my mantra: " I am worthy and worthwhile. I count." Years ago, the neighborhood would gather on Shaw's Hill and slide from daylight until dark during the winter months. I remember the couple of layers of long underwear and cordoroy pants did little to protect from the cold and wet. Once adjusted to the warmth of the house my legs would burn and itch, but the hours and hours sliding were worth it. Snow pants you say? I didn't own a pair until I was in Junior High School and certainly it wasn't fashionable to wear, but they kept you toasty and dry.
I had the old fashioned wooden sled with the steel runners. This relic manufactured in Paris, Maine offered great steering, but only good in packed snow and it was a little rough on the bumps. When I was in 7th grade I tore my ultra colorful winter jacket on a nail protuding from this sled. Secretly, I hoped that this would happen, but I never let on to my mother for she adored that jacket, that jacket wild with brushstrokes of pink, green, yellow and purple. When I wanted to just quietly exist among my friends as a thirteen year old, it screamed, "Notice me! I am here!" Later, walking home I reviewed the scene over and over in my mind reporting the news to my mother that the jacket was ripped beyond repair and was headed for the trash heap. Of course I had to act disappointed and sad or as penence she would force me to wear the ripped jacket. Nimbly her fingers repaired and soon I was off for the rest of the winter (and the next) as a beacon on Shaw's Hill and anywhere else I went.
