I Dream
Seems like I am a pretty adaptable person-you know I go with the flow, but...I am ready to admit that I have been thinking about spring. Green growing rather than white growing!
Tea Party
It is easy to recognize the lure of the tea party. The ritual sooths as well as bonds. My youngest and I have tea parties on a regular basis-'tis good for the soul. This image is a few months old and is a good reminder that we must plan another soon.

Simplicity
Now and again I zip passed this building saying, "I'll stop next time!" Well, this very afternoon was the time. I like the clean simple image...this is an old school house, now a museum.

Night On the Town
Sushi, sushi, sushi.
See, see, see.
See Jerry run.
Go Jerry go.
I love sushi. I love the texture. I love the flavors and the artistry. I make it simply at home. Nothing fancy, but oh so good. Some day...I will return here without my Jerry who breaks out in a sweat when I mouth the word SUSHI.

Routine
Routine helps a girl unwind at night. Recently, I was introduced to a great board/card game called Sequence. Turns out my youngest loves it and is quite strategic and it is finally a game that I can beat my husband at now and again. Despite the high stakes (of whether I win or not)...I am able to unwind. Judging from this image, it helps someone else in the family unwind too.

The Quality of Snow Fall
Snow is not created equal. My favorite snow is sticky. Sticky means that the snow clings to the trees creating the most beautiful opportunities for picturesque shots.

Red Sky...Night
Despite the fact that I was racing from responsibility to responsibility...and of course running late, I JUST had to pull off into the Trenton Market Place parking lot to take this startling photo. Whether I see a red sky at night or in the morning, I have to go through the whole recitation of "RED sky in morning, sailors take warning. RED sky at NIGHT, sailors DELIGHT." After decades...why can't I sort this out in my head and be just a tad more automatic predicting the weather?!
Will tomorrow bring a beautiful day followed by another wicked snow storm? Time will tell. Sometimes it is best not knowing what will come, but just accept the weather minute by minute. Stand by we live in Maine. It will change.

Island Somewhere Off the Coast of Maine
I live on an island generous with mountains, lakes and tourists. Nearly every direction you head, you can see the ocean and lots and lots of smaller islands. Rounded and emerging.
This island on the other hand is "from away." Looks desolate and uninhabited. Does anyone know of the location off the coast of Maine?
Consecutive Post: Day 4 for Father John
Note: 10 year old Guest Photographer/Daughter as her mother (behind the wheel of an every creeping slow moving vehicle) directs where to point the camera. Truthfully, she needs little photographic assistance from ANYONE!

Sir Charles
Charlie has been part of our family for 13 years. He quietly demonstrates a presence that other cats respect.

Buried
I have an obsession with old objects....objects that hold stories....objects that hold a history. This was once a plow that dug deep into the earth with the brute force of an oxen or work horse. Now it is a lawn ornament...this time of year a snow ornament. Buried. Silent.

Reflections of the Past
I love old buildings. I love the straight lines and the curves that create a whole. Each old building is a repository of multi-generational memories.
A Jewel Forever in My Heart
What a treat it was recently to go home and visit my family. It left me sentimentally grateful for growing up where I did...a city that holds four generations of my history. After eating at our favorite Indian Restaurant we took a leisurely drive (yes....I KNOW the price of GAS) allowing my brother to relay story after story passing this landmark and that, filling my mind with sweet reminiscence of an earlier time.
Snow Day #942
Geez...I trudged around in the drifts of snow in boots that would rival any clammin' boots. How much snow can one psyche absorb? I think time will tell....I have been spending lots of time reviewing my South Pacific photos. Is that a sign?!

The Cove
One of the benefits of rising early for work is witnessing some of the most beautiful vistas. This was the scene this morning just down the street from my house. It was SO "oh my" I had to stop and take a photo!
Copper Lace
The background of this shot is SNOW...WHITE which creates quite a contrast. I particularly love the lacy texture of these "leftovers" from the butterfly garden.

The Blues
This was one of the most beautifully blue skies I have ever witnessed. The end results of this image are a bit disappointing. When dealing with nature and time sensative circumstances, the photographer has little chance to dabble in the possiilities. One thing is certain, having my camera in my hand heightens my awareness of colors, light, shadows and shapes. For this I am grateful.
Accidental, On Purpose
Here's is the wild image my 10 year old took of the Christmas Tree and surroundings...I don't think I could have pulled this one off if I tried.

Skinny Is the Word
As I crossed the Trenton bridge gazing over the bay, I began to dream. The dream of dreams: my guilt-less skinny decaf latte with a delicate sprinkling of cinnamon. Smooth, warm and oh so soothing.
(Trivia: Frothing can be done with warm milk in a french press. Plunge the milk gently a few times and tah-dah! All set.)

Petite Island
With a foggy day comes a quiet calm. I drive by this little island everyday, take notice of the beauty. Today it is barely visible. Standing silent-in hiding.
Bit by Bit Spring Draws Near
Each winter when the stark white and black seem to be all I perceive, one humble-looking bulb begins. It seems within hours of nesting among the pebbles it begins to erupt. Green and alive springing forth life.

Maxie Boy
Each morning Maxie, the cat steps on me-sometimes on my face to reach the loving embace of my husband. This is a daily exercise in fortitude (for me)...an exercise in mouthing my mantra: " I am worthy and worthwhile. I count." For a few minutes each day, I do not exist...for there is only the love of one human and one feline. Priceless.
Sledding of Old
Years ago, the neighborhood would gather on Shaw's Hill and slide from daylight until dark during the winter months. I remember the couple of layers of long underwear and cordoroy pants did little to protect from the cold and wet. Once adjusted to the warmth of the house my legs would burn and itch, but the hours and hours sliding were worth it. Snow pants you say? I didn't own a pair until I was in Junior High School and certainly it wasn't fashionable to wear, but they kept you toasty and dry.
I had the old fashioned wooden sled with the steel runners. This relic manufactured in Paris, Maine offered great steering, but only good in packed snow and it was a little rough on the bumps. When I was in 7th grade I tore my ultra colorful winter jacket on a nail protuding from this sled. Secretly, I hoped that this would happen, but I never let on to my mother for she adored that jacket, that jacket wild with brushstrokes of pink, green, yellow and purple. When I wanted to just quietly exist among my friends as a thirteen year old, it screamed, "Notice me! I am here!" Later, walking home I reviewed the scene over and over in my mind reporting the news to my mother that the jacket was ripped beyond repair and was headed for the trash heap. Of course I had to act disappointed and sad or as penence she would force me to wear the ripped jacket. Nimbly her fingers repaired and soon I was off for the rest of the winter (and the next) as a beacon on Shaw's Hill and anywhere else I went.
