Ice Fall

It is never good when a head meets frozen water. Ouch! My head will be elevated off my pillow tonight because of my newly acquired "goose egg."

Senior Exhibition

Boy, we are proud of our girl. She completed her Senior Exhibition today that consisted of an art show which answered an essential question: "How can I explore a range of media and maintain a unifying theme in my art?" Our resident artist/daughter chose the theme of hands and used various techniques like collage, cut paper, free sketching, use of plaster and sketching by a grid. (You can tell that I am not an artist, at least not one that uses the proper terms.) Congratualations! You go girl!

Something From Nothing

Art! My daughter spent quite some time creating this camera. Once you take the photograph the photo pops right out. She was quite pleased with herself!

Just Learning

My mother loved ice skating. Walking about a mile or more to the local pond she would skate all day. Later in life, while watching the best of professionals Peggy, Dorothy and the like twirl and whirl and leap on two blades, you could hear my mother proclaim, "I can do that!" You know...I was never convinced that she couldn't. My mother did amazing things!

Quality of Old

Look at the care that was taken with painting tole designs on this old Singer. As a little girl I remember the carved oak cabinet, the ease of sliding open the small narrow drawers and the black iron trundle plate that my grandmother rocked back and forth to power her old Singer. In addition, she always had loads of hand mending to do her silver thimble in hand.

Stove Pipe?

I found this fancy intricate metal work on the end of what looked to be a stove pipe.

MMMMMM, Bean Hole Beans

This is a living history demonstration of bean hole beans. A wood fire is built in a hole and burned to coals which surround this cast iron covered dutch oven. At least that is my understanding. The dusty looking stuff is smoke as it is an extremely hot fire hence the long pole. I don't usually go wild about beans, (yes, I am a Maina') but these were extra tasty.

Ice Fishing With Results

Pack baskets are essential when ice fishing and loaded with the tip ups awaiting drilled holes in the ice. Here is my number one son with his catch. I think his kitty Frances is quite interested in salmon for supper. What do you think?
A big thank you to guest photographer, my daughter "Supertwin."

Creatures Great and Small

A beach at Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica was crawling with lots of these little hermit crabs. A short walk into the forest revealed sloths and monkeys. It was quite an experience. I can't wait to return to Costa Rica!
