This is a living history demonstration of bean hole beans. A wood fire is built in a hole and burned to coals which surround this cast iron covered dutch oven. At least that is my understanding. The dusty looking stuff is smoke as it is an extremely hot fire hence the long pole. I don't usually go wild about beans, (yes, I am a Maina') but these were extra tasty.
