A Good Try

#32 (son) watches his brother #56 (son) attempt a field goal for the team. This was the second game of the day for the family with about 3.5 hours of travel involved to attend both games. Phew!

First Day Memories

Acadia National Park and family. Who could ask for more as we create memories of our first day of autumn 2007?

How Do I Love Thee?

I don't know why I love this shot so much. It caught my eye on the trail and I continued walking and then decided to walk back to take the photo as I knew the image would remain in my mind and create regret. Who needs regret? I don't. Wait....I love the shadows, light and varying texture....the birch, the granite and the old knarled mossy roots in the background. No regrets here!

A Dear Deer

This shot was taken by my daughter on the way back home from our mid-afternoon hike. I didn't think it was safe to drive and snap photos, so I slowed the vehicle and nature cooperated as she fumbled for the camera. Not bad huh?

Autumn Light

This kind of reminds me of a photo I took in Costa Rica. Again I just love the light and shadows. In celebration of the first day of autumn, we went hiking in Acadia.

In Hiding

Now I know that this isn't the most remarkable photographic feat, but it is quite a find. If I hadn't been hiking with young children, I would have been sure to miss this PRAYING MANTIS. Now I used to find them now and again as a child in Southern Maine, but I don't remember seeing them this far north. With its' magnificent camoflague it was hard to locate with the naked eye. Earlier in the week one of my student's parents found a dead one in the window as she was cleaning and brought it in the classroom. Their presence a result of global warming??

A Thing of the Past

When we went to Pat's Pizza recently after a football game, my son being a fan of vintage cars and such eyed the old jukeboxes at each table. As he excitedly flipped through the titles for the perfect song, his mother rooted through her purse for a quarter. Being observant, the waitress appeared reporting the sad news, "Oh those haven't worked for a long, long time." I suppose one day the i-pod will become vintage and excite some young tike. Just think of that.

Baby and Me

There is something comforting about the change of season and falling into an easy night-time routine of reading. Can you think of anything sweeter than a young one reading to her baby doll?

Two in One

This was an interesting discovery at the apple orchard. At least I thought so, but my daughter thought that I was making a ridiculous spectacle in my examination of this apple. Have you EVER seen one?????!!!!! Probably not, so I am justified in my wonder!

Family Traditions

It's apple picking time! I can't believe that it is that time of year again (so soon)! As we prepare to transition from one season to another, it is comforting to rely on the familiar family traditions....and of course Apple Crisp with French Vanilla ice cream. Now that's comforting!!!

"Bud"

In the previous blog I believe I spoke about my mother and her individualism. Now here is a girl, my daughter who is appropriately named after her grandmother.

A Tradition

The old time country fair on Labor Day weekend is a tradition that our nearly now adult children insist upon. Each year we exchange family tales of bygone years of fair going. How my mother loved this event. To be sure "grammy stories" were predominately weaved through our afternoon bringing laughter and smiles. How I miss her and the zest she had for adventure and individualism. She taught us well.
