Discriminating Taste

We have been having a lot of watermelon lately because Rex demands it.  The discovery came when I held the rind in my hand and he started chomping on it using his tiny white front teeth.  I think next we'll try corn on the cob.

This reminds me, when Elizabeth was about three, she was often the last one left sitting at the table.  One day, we had the traditional lobster dinner (company from away was visiting) and I watched her examine the detailed pattern that the corn cob could give her between bites.  Slow, thoughtful and methodical. She was there all alone at the head of a long, long table.  Alone.  Examining and eating for the longest time.
